So, you’ve been hitting the gym doing COUNTLESS reps and sets of ab exercises but still nothing to show for it other than a sweat laden tank top. Ugh. Below are some useful tips to get the most out of your ab routine, so you can crunch those abs into tip-top shape.

Fueling Up

Your diet is one of the most important factors in achieving that desirable 2, 4 or 6-pack. Think about it, what’s covering those perfectly shaped abs? Fat. In order for them to take center stage, you need to burn the fat masking it, hence, revving up your metabolism. Eat breakfast every morning to get it jumpstarted, and every few hours so your fat burning machine is in constant motion. And don’t forget H20; super critical for all bodily functions. Remember, our bodies are made up of approximatley 75% water!

Cardio Machine

Which brings me to cardiovascular training – it burns fat. Most of the energy you burn from cardio is fat – which our bodies prefer to burn up first for energy, before going after muscle tissue (which you don’t want). Get into a cardio routine, whether its running, walking, cycling or planting yourself into an aerobics class (or a combination of any!);  get moving at least 3-4 times a week to achieve a fat burning body that will expose those oh-so desirable abs!

Exercise Your Routine

Many times people get into a mundane routine of hitting the same ol’ ab crunches, bicycles crunches or planks (which are great, by the way!), without seeing the effects of their efforts. Reason? Your body needs to be challenged, hence, delivering a little confusion and change every so often. Stagnation is a big NO when it comes to getting visible abs, or exercising in general for that matter! Change it up. Look up different ab exercises (taking into consideration, core ones too), and create a full, drawn out list. Select one exercise to hit each area of your abdominals, and go hit it hard. And remember form is KEY – pay attention to it, and squeeze those abs when performing each exercise.

Mind Over Matter

Your mind can play a HUGE role in achieving visible abs. Stick to the plan. Know what the goal is and don’t deviate from it. And when you’re in the midst of cranking out another 2 or 3 reps and its burning like hell, remember, this is when muscle grows – when you apply shock to it. Push through the temporary agony and know your abs are pushing through to become visible for you!
